Cost of Study

The cost of studying in the UK should take into account the tuition fees, living costs, visa costs and travel costs to and from the student's home country.

Tuition fees
The tuition fees vary depending on the type of course (Science, Engineering, Business Studies, MBA, Art & Design etc) ; undergraduate or postgraduate) and the duration of the course. An indication of the average international students fees are listed below.
Most students have to buy some reference books through the year which can cost between £350 and £500 per year. Personal expenses like clothing, entertainment, telephone bills, travel, groceries and the like will also need to be accounted for.

Undergraduate Arts £ 9,000 per year

Undergraduate Engineering £10,000 per year
Postgraduate Arts (taught) £11,000 per year
Postgraduate Science (taught) £12,500 per year

Cost of living

The factors that contribute to the cost of living include accommodation, food and personal expenses. Accommodation costs will vary depending on where you stay (on or off campus) and the type of accommodation you choose (ensuite room with attached shower/shared facilities). The university accommodation can be slightly expensive, but it will be safe and secure with all the facilities and closer to the institution where you will be studying. If you choose not to live in university accommodation then you can rent out an apartment with other mates to share the costs, which can be less expensive, compared to university accommodation.
Other costs to be included when planning your budget are local travel, telephone, entertainment, clothing, groceries and incidentals. It is also prudent to include international travel costs if you decide to go back home during the semester breaks.
As per UKBA, you need to budget around £800 to live in London and £600 in regions outside London i.e Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds etc.
Students on full-time courses lasting 6 months or more are eligible for treatment from the National Health Service (NHS). This includes free doctor's examinations and hospital treatment from the start of your course.
